Yorkshire men’s pre-season tour, which was scheduled to start on Saturday with the squad travelling to the UAE, has been cancelled due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, the White Rose confirmed on Wednesday. The men’s squad will head to Desert Springs in Spain on Sunday for ten days with players returning from the Melbourne training camp, joining the squad later next week.
Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket, said “Given the ongoing situation in the Middle East, the safety of all our players and staff is of paramount importance to us. As a result of this, we’ve worked swiftly to rearrange our plans, and we’re pleased to have turned this alternative provision around in such a short space of time.”
Hamilton added that the camp in Desert Springs will also give the players an opportunity to collectively come together for the first time this winter and will ensure they have enough preparation time ahead of the start of the season next month.
James Wharton and Matthew Revis, who were both in the UAE with the England Lions for the curtailed series with Pakistan Shaheens, have returned to the UK with the rest of the England squad.
