Harry’s decision to write – often about cricket – instead of playing can be attributed to a Lancashire youth coach telling him; “We have decided not to offer you terms, but I want to let you know that you can be happy because, wherever you play, you will entertain the crowd.”
Later he learnt this was the way the county gently ‘let down’ hopeful prospects who weren’t deemed promising enough! Given the quality, volume and diversity of his subsequent work it was advice well heeded, even in the shark infested waters of freelance writing.
