The hardy cricket loving quizzers who braved a filthy wet night to take part in our Quiz Night on 27 November 2025 witnessed a keenly contested – not to say very sporting – conclusion.
Fifty cricket questions, including ten in a picture round, were pored over by the teams. With a big financial prize (not!) on the line, tensions were building as the results were revealed …
It was a draw! The dreaded tie-break would decide the contest. But no – the spirit of cricket was not dead. One of the captains of the two ‘joint winners’, Robert Hukin whose team had a numerical advantage over their opponents, conceded the title.
As a result Les Payne and Andrew Foley were declared worthy winners and happily took home the much vaunted, priceless, diamond encrusted trophy. As you can see it would take both of them to carry it home …
It’s worth noting that both of those teams donated their winnings to Society funds. Thank you, gentlemen, your sporting gesture ensured that cricket – through the individuals who love it – was the real winner on the night.
