This is a treasured photograph taken at Parkhead Cricket Week in July 1958 ( I was 4 weeks old at the time !)
It features my father, Phil Denniff keeping wicket, with Garfield Sobers at first slip.
I managed to get the great man to sign the photo when he attended an SCL event.
I also met Sir Garry in Barbados 1994 when England were touring the West Indies, and he tipped me the winner of the “Barbados Derby” at the Garrison Savannah.
A truly great sporting legend and a real gentleman.
Andrew Denniff
Footnote: Sadly Sir Garfield Sobers died on 17th July 2026 aged 89, 11 days before his 90th birthday and the very day after we posted this tribute and treasured memory. RIP Sir Garry
