This masterpiece was created by the wonderful artist and wicketkeeper Jack Russell. It is of course a limited edition print of the late and great Sir Donald Bradman which is signed by both Jack and Sir Donald.
Jack presented me this during my benefit year with Yorkshire CCC in 1991. The intention was for me to auction it off to raise some funding. However I fell in love with it so much that I kept it for myself and it’s been proudly hanging in a prime spot wherever I have lived since. Jack also gave me another print of Sir Ian Botham that I gave to my friend Nick Davis for all his support in my benefit year.
The fact that I had played against Jack (and with him when he played for Yorkshire in a pre season game in Barbados when touring with England) many times and developed an excellent relationship with him, and that he had created such wonderful paintings of the world’s great players, is the main reason why it means so much to me. I was and still am grateful to Jack for his support at that time and we still remain in touch from time to time.
