The Sporting World, via Sheffield Caribbean Cricket Club, has an unsung hero in Des
Smith. He was voted as such in the Sports Personality of the Year 2023 Poll and
this accolade is richly deserved. It got us thinking …
Sheffield Cricket Lovers also has an unsung hero, by the name of Peter
Griffiths. Peter has been working with us since March 2020 when he offered to
put all of our Year Books on his crickethistory.website
If you haven’t been on this website, it is a veritable treasure trove of
history. To quote from the site “We have set up this website to provide a
place where historical or hard-to-find or interesting or research cricket
material can be deposited on-line.” Pete is a lifelong cricket enthusiast
and a founder member of CricInfo.
As you will see from our Year Books on SCL site, he has done a tremendous
job and our Scorebooks are also on there along with a search facility for those
who just can’t remember when ‘so and so’ visited or spoke to the Society.
Just recently Peter added our own publication, Googlies & Giggles,
produced during Lockdown, to our section of the crickethistory site so that you
can read it via our own website. Not a two-minute task.
We want to place on record our grateful thanks to Peter and crickethistory.website for all the
work he has done on our behalf and ask you to please drop by and have a browse
– you will enjoy it.
